The culmination of the history of Israel as told in the Old Testament rests in these short books of partial restoration. We will study the narrative structure of Ezra and Nehemiah and their place in God's whole story, then employ sound practice in observing the text, interpreting its purpose, and applying its lessons to our lives.
God's timeless message told in the Old Testament continues to equip and encourage us as New Testament believers and to provide examples and warnings for us as the people of God (1 Corinthians 10:11). Paul also tells us that Scripture is useful for teaching, preaching, and training in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Finally, Jesus reminds us that all Scripture is ultimately telling us about Himself (Luke 24:25-27). With these truths in mind, we come to Ezra and Nehemiah to be warned, to be equipped, and to be enlightened so that we may continue to faithfully serve the Lord Jesus who has included us in the story of His people.
