Our Story: Mosaic

God’s Story

Our story begins with God and is rooted in His story. God created mankind to reflect His image, rule His creation, and enjoy life and relationship with Him. But we rejected this offer through sin.

Since then, God’s story is a rescue and recovery operation. The Triune God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) pursues us, rescues us, changes us, and restores us. As individuals, and as a church, we have no greater story than this. At Mosaic, it shapes everything we are and do. Our Story

In 1998, Fellowship was growing by leaps and bounds. Church leadership explored the possibility of services on Saturday night. But as the idea developed, they decided it should be more than just an additional service. It should be its own congregation. In September 1998, a Saturday night church was born. Since that time, Mosaic has grown to become a separate congregation. We share the same elder leadership, vision/mission and facilities as Fellowship Bible Church. But Mosaic is led by its own staff and has a unique identity and ministry.

Our Identity :: a mosaic

Why name a church Mosaic? Mosaic art is made up of many small pieces—each unique in size, shape, and color. And each broken and chipped. It's an important word picture for us, because it's a great metaphor for Jesus' Church. A mosaic is many individual broken pieces brought together by an artist who has a grand vision of the finished picture.

Seeing the church as a mosaic means that we have a passion for three values:

all are broken—each of us is broken in sin and needs God’s forgiveness and repair. In fact, we can’t fit in a mosaic unless we acknowledge our brokenness.

all matter—because of what Jesus has done and is doing in our lives, there is dignity, power, and calling in each of us.

only One gets the glory—no one looks at a mosaic and marvels over the broken pieces. We marvel at the Artist’s vision and work. That’s why Jesus is the One we celebrate and worship at Mosaic.

Our Calling :: GC2

Because we are Jesus’ church, we follow His lead. His mission becomes our mission. What He says is great becomes great to us. When you look at Jesus’ teaching, two commands are lifted up as so great that they shape everything else we do.

great commandment—to love God and love others as our self.

great commission—to make disciples of all peoples.

These two “greats” are how we live out our identity in Christ, and how we fulfill Fellowship Bible Church’s mission of “producing and releasing spiritual leaders who know and express the authentic Christ to NWA and the world.” We can’t tell you whether we make disciples by loving others or whether we love others by making disciples. We just know Jesus says that both make up the great calling on our lives.

Since life is complicated enough, let’s keep it simple. That means Mosaic is committed to personal disciple-making and loving the community around us. All by and through the grace of Jesus.

Practically speaking, how do we live out this GC2 lifestyle best? We live the way Jesus prayed we would live. In John 17, He prayed that we would live as one, live by the Word, and live as sent. (You can read more about this on our community page.)
